New Facebook Algorithms Change What Your Followers See!

Big news and changes in Facebook this week!
First off, Facebook have changed their ‘newsfeed ranking algorithm’ to show ‘more high quality content’.
Hmm, what does that mean? Basically your newsfeed is changing. It looks like edgerank is out and their new ‘machine’ is in!
By surveying thousands of people to determine what factors make posts high quality, Facebook have built what they’re calling ‘a new machine learning system to detect content defined as high quality.’

Jon Loomer Digital wrote an excellent post all about the change this week and you can read that here – Facebook Newsfeed Algorithm Changes
In summary, content is no longer King on Facebook. High Quality Content is King!
Make sure you’re creating focused, fresh, interesting, and fun images, videos and content that encourages your audience to speak to you and you’ll be ahead of the game!

Facebook Now Allows Contests & Promotions On Your Timeline

This update is a big win for increased engagement on your page. With Facebook relaxing the rules on using 3rd party apps to host contests and promotions on your business page, the flood gates are now wide open for you to engage your fans in fun interactive events directly on your timeline wall.
Done well (think high quality here), this will result in more visits from fans and increased newsfeed exposure.

You now have the best of both worlds! You can use smaller, more interactive and fun promotions on your timeline to get your fans involved and create a viral effect and you can continue to use 3rd party apps to build your list.
Thanks FB!

Buffer Now Available for Google+

Slide 5
We love Buffer! In fact we ran a post all about how to use the buffer app a few weeks ago, you can see how useful a tool it is here. Link.
Now thank goodness you can use it to share posts directly to G+. Previously the only scheduling and sharing app for google was the slightly buggy, do share extension on google chrome.
Here’s some of the features;
  • See analytics and insights on your social media posts that include likes, shares, retweets, favorites, and such.
  • Create multiple accounts so you (or anyone on your team) can post content easily to several platforms.
  • Includes images and videos on the scheduled tweets and posts.
  • VERY simple and streamlined making getting used to it quick and easy.
We here at JBO advocate publishing manually and timely for the most part on social media, but scheduling tools are super useful for different time zones and when you’re away etc.
So get out there and start buffering!

LinkedIn Shakes Things Up and Redesigns Groups

LinkedIn decided to mix it up with their new design of Group Pages. Now they physically resemble the look of the home page and on the back end encourage active users.
So, like Facebook, groups are now favoring the strong players with good content who post often, and engage within the group. Dabblers won’t be as lucky.
Slide 3
Because we’re so busy keeping on top of all the social platforms you may find the new group rules pushing your comments and engagement down the ladder unless you’re consistently present.
So the key to seeing a soar in profile views, conversations, and engagement is to actively engage regularly and consistently in your groups!
